Police Rescue Woman Allegedly Confined By Brother In Abuja

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has rescued a 36-year-old woman, Grace Aniekuoku, who was allegedly confined and restrained by her brother for more than 16 months.

FCT Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Sanusi, said the command received a distress report on June 12, 2026, alleging that the woman, an indigene of Anambra State, was being unlawfully detained under inhumane conditions by her brother, Chinedu Aniekuoku.

According to the police commissioner, detectives from the Katampe Division were immediately deployed to the location following the report.

He said the suspect allegedly resisted the officers and initially denied them access to the premises. The officers subsequently gained entry and found the woman in a severely weakened condition inside the room.

The suspect was arrested, while the victim was rescued and taken to a hospital, where she is receiving medical attention.

Police said preliminary investigations indicate that the victim’s son had been taken to an unknown location about two years ago. Efforts are ongoing to locate the child and establish the circumstances surrounding his disappearance.

The commissioner said the victim is receiving medical care and rehabilitation, while the suspect remains in police custody pending the conclusion of investigations.

He added that the suspect would be charged in court if investigations establish sufficient grounds for prosecution.

The FCT Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting vulnerable persons and urged residents to report cases of abuse, unlawful detention and other criminal activities to law enforcement authorities.
